The Effect of Collage Art Therapy on the Psychological Exhaustion of Special Teachers

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of collage art therapy on the psychological exhaustion of special teachers. The study was conducted as a single case of a special teacher who suffered psychological exhaustion at school B in area A. The teacher took a total of 9 art collage therapies twice a week for 120 minutes per session. Psychological exhaustion test was conducted before and after the art therapies, and the behavioral changes of each session related to psychological exhaustion and the changes in psychological exhaustion shown in the works through collage art therapy was analyzed qualitatively. The results are as follows. First, the collage art therapy programs were effective for the psychological exhaustion of the special teacher. Second, verbal and nonverbal behaviors related to psychological exhaustion of the teacher was positively changed. Third, the changes in the psychological exhaustion in the work were gradually expressed as an integrated and positive self-image. Therefore, this study shows that collage art therapies have a positive effect on the psychological exhaustion of special teachers. In conclusion, collage art therapies positively helped special teachers with psychological exhaustion, and it was done with experiencing self-understanding process, achievement, and insights through the works.
